Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why was this website designed?
A. This is a professional web site designed for dentists to share their problems and solutions to the unique issues, questions, situations, and events that arise during our daily lives as a result of our practice of dentistry and patient care.

Q. Are my postings and/or replies visible to the general public?
A. Absolutely not. You must be a registered member and a licensed or retired dentist to
use this site. One of the main purposes of this site was to create a safe
environment where dentists could talk freely, honestly, and openly without any fears
or reservations.

Q. Can I have multiple Usernames?
A. Absolutely! We will allow up to three (3) Usernames on one account but they must
be the registered under the same email and IP address. Just let me know ahead of
time before you create additional names and I will make the necessary modifications
to your account.
Some people may choose to use one Username like HOUSTON MARY DDS,
where a thorough profile including birthday, geographical location,
specialty, etc., has been created. Another dentist may figure out who you are.
That may be what you want. This name may be used when anonymity is not
important.
On the other hand, if someone plans to discuss problems and issues of highly
sensitive natures, they may not want other dentists to possibly know who they are.
Anonymity is extremely important! Here they might create a Username like
BOSTON DOC NEEDS HELP, not giving details in their profile
(your email address is the only required field in the PROFILE section, but an
option also gives you the choice of allowing or disallowing other members
to view your email address). You may also choose an option in PREFERENCES
to browse the forums “invisible”.

Q. Do I have to register to use the forums?
A. You must be a dentist if you register for dentiststalk.com. Registrations will be verified by various methods. Please do not falsely claim to be dentists since many States consider such a claim the same as “practicing dentistry”. You must have the necessary credentials and licensing to “practice dentistry. There are varying civil and criminal penalties for such false claims. Registering is quick and simple. Please join us.

Q. Are there any types of posts that are prohibited here?
A. We will delete any spam or commercial posts. Please do not post to sell something or involve anyone in a money-making proposition. Flames or rude / insensitive remarks will be removed. Users who are disruptive may be banned. Users that use profanity, racial slurs, promote violence, drugs, pornography, or anything illegal, or other matters that are deemed objectionable, will be prohibited from using the site.

NOT ALLOWED: SPAM * ADVERTISING * PLAGIARIZING * FLAMING * ABUSE * PERSONAL ATTACKS OR INSULTS * HARASSMENT * DISRESPECT OF OTHER MEMBERS * SOLICITATIONS

Q. May I promote my product or Web site here?
A. As with most places on the Internet, you may make your URL part of your "signature" by adding it to your signature file or typing it under your name at the end of your posts, but please do not place commercial posts on the forum unless prior authorization is given by the administrator.

Q. How do I upload photos (i.e. clinical, potential real estate deals, etc.),
documents, mp3 files?

A. You can insert web-based files utilizing the tool buttons in the center of the editor
window. You may also use the BROWSE BOX at the bottom of the editor window
to insert files from your computer. The maximum width for pictures is 1200 pixels.
Resize your pictures to a width under 1200, preferably around 600 pixels.
If you need a picture editing program, you can download this one for free:

Q. Is it dangerous to download attachments?
A. Files are opened in a format that should not harm your computer. However, we
cannot be responsible for any viruses or spyware that may get through. Install
yourself a good Antivirus/Anti-spyware system such as Norton or McAfee.

Q. Can I post upcoming CE courses on the calendar?
A. Please do. If you fill out your birthday date in the profile section, your birthday will automatically be placed on the calendar. Other ideas include: study groups, meetings, professional events, media events concerning dental issues (i.e. talk shows, newscast, investigative reports (don’t you just love’em) etc.)

Q. Can I register if I'm not a dentist?                                                                                                A.  Yes, you can!  Use the same Register Link at the top of the homepage.   In the "DENTAL SCHOOL" field, type the name of your business, organization, or company.  Then type "N/A" in "Date Graduated" and "State Licensed" fields. "Uncheck" the last box and submit.  You will receive an "activation link" in your mailbox.  We will also send you a temporary password in a different email. It may take up to 48 hours for both.  Click the "activation link" .  You will be given limited access to a "Special Forum"  for non-dentists. You may post ads for your business and/or company there.  Once signed on, you may change your password under "MY ACCOUNTS".  Write it down, we do not have access to passwords.  Also, You will not be able to view any other forums, but our members will be able to view your postings and respond if necessary.
